Koodoo Sponsor Maasai Women’s Empowerment Centre

  • Koodoo Sponsor Maasai Womens Empowerment Centre

Dear Koodoo,

It has finally stopped raining long enough for the gutters, downpipes, and water tanks that you have paid for to be installed which will provide the ladies with clean water to drink and cook with.

The pipework will look a little odd which is because we are about to start fundraising to build the next section of the building to provide more training and classrooms. The tanks have been positioned to accommodate this without the need to move them at a later date. We hopefully have an initial sponsor to kick this off and we will know more in the next couple of week.

Unfortunately, the fence posts around the empowerment centre have been attacked by termites and are collapsing which leaves the building and our equipment much less secure.

Previously concrete fence posts have not been available in this remote part of Kenya as they were too expensive to transport. With the new road, this has now changed and we can buy them from Narok.

In addition to replacing the perimeter fence, we are going to build a large chicken run within the compound and buy the ladies some chickens. Eggs are in short supply in the area and therefore expensive. The ladies will look after the chickens and then sell the eggs at the weekly markets to raise income for the centre and themselves.

The cost of the fencing and chicken house is going to be $5,925 of which we have raised $3,500 through Gift Aid claims. We would like to use $2,425 from the money that you so generously recently donated to fund the difference and a further $80 to buy some chickens, feeders, food etc to start them off.

Thank you as always for sharing the photos and update Wayne. Those water tanks certainly look as though they will hold a significant amount of water.

As you might know – May is our annual fundraising challenge for CTE so the team are hard at work trying to get to 280,000 steps per person this month we hope to be able to continue to support all the great work the charity is doing.

I love the idea of the chickens and think it sounds like a great next step.

Keep up the fabulous work!
