CTE and Susan, plus supporters between us, sponsor over 60 students at Nkineji School. Many of our children are from very poor, disadvantaged families where the parents are uneducated. A few are sponsored because they would be at risk of child marriage, so they stay in school during the term time and then at Julie Jewels safe houses in the holidays.
Many struggle with English and Maths, which results in them struggling if they make it to high school.
Thanks to one of our sponsors, we are running four weeks of extra lessons through the holidays.
Although it may not look it from the photos, we are able to offer Jeannette Fuller an unusual teacher-to-student ratio, which really helps.
Some of the teachers have stayed away from their families to work for us.
Jeannette Fuller, you may recognise the building. We are putting the recently extended Women’s Empowerment Centre to yet another community use.
These lessons will be the difference between making it to high school or not for some of these children.
These kids really want to learn.
Thanks to our use of the Empowerment Centre, our volunteers, and donations of learning materials, we are able to provide 4 weeks extra tuition at just £2.40 a child a week.
That’s the same price as a Greggs bacon roll a week! And think of the calories you will be avoiding!
We are looking for sponsors and donations to fund these sessions during the holidays next year.
